Stichting new lives in Bangladesh

Many are the development cooperation projects using crafts and tailoring as strategy to empower women by providing them with specific training and employment opportunities. In Bangladesh, UNHCR launched a project to support Rohingya women based in Nayapara refugee camp. The project  plans to train nearly 1,200 young women this year.

As I know this strategy is seen in different ways and there is some kind of controversial debate about “giving sewing machines to women is not empowerment“, I would address this issue very soon by sharing my thoughts about that. For instance, read more about this initiative in this story.
